Disability Networking

Employment Network Hawaii Employer Services has created employer job connections, support information, and participates with other agencies to form a supportive path for individuals with disabilities to find employment. Working closely with employers to meet their business needs, we assist in the connection between employer and an employee with a disability. We work to make every placement a success and a continued benefit to both the employer and the employee.

On October 19th, 2007, many businesses on the Big Island of Hawaii joined together with  Employment Network Hawaii EMPLOYER SERVICES to host the Big Islands first “Employer Forum”.

Employment Network Hawaii EMPLOYER SERVICES, Department of Health DD/MR division, Workforce Development Division (WDD), Department of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR), the Medicaid Infrastructure Grant (MIG), and many other agency providers and interested parties in Hilo, Hawaii have joined together and to form the new employment support system called Workforce Solutions.

Workforce Solutions hosted the first  “Employer Forum” in Hilo, October 19th, 2007 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. The forum will presented 4 employee panelists with disabilities and 4 employer panelists who presently hire individuals with disabilities to speak before the invited employer guests.  The forum was held at Mayor Harry Kim’s  conference room.  Various participating members of the consortium provided a reception, food, and assistance at the event.

General goals and purpose of this newly formed consortium are below:

1)  Hold an Employer Forum, October 19, 2007 to hopefully educate, enlighten, and encourage employers to the valuable, untapped workforce of persons with disabilities and the benefits for employers who hire individuals with disabilities.

2)  Hold future events for parents, caregivers, schools, case managers, and clients, to educate them of the many possibilities through employment.

Employment Network Hawaii longs to dispel the myths that a person with disabilities will lose if they go to work.   If you are an employer and desire to come to this event, contact Vicki Nelson at (808) 982-8322 for more information.  Thank you.
